- Being well rounded. Nogueira has great jiu-jitsu and boxing skills.
- His battle with Mauricio "Shogun" Rua at PRIDE Critical Countdown 2005. Nogueira dropped Rua in the first round and it was a back and forth fight, with Rua winning an eventual UD. This is considered one of the greatest fights in MMA history.
- Submitting Dan Henderson via arm-bar at PRIDE Total Elimination 2005.
- KO'ing Luiz Cane at UFC 106 in Nogueira UFC debut. Nogueira won KOOTN.
- His controversial SD win over Jason Brilz at UFC 114. This won FOTN but many believe Brilz deserved the nod.
- Victories over Kazuhiro Nakamura, Kazushi Sakuraba, Alistair Overeem, and Vladimir Matyushenko.
