UFC 149 - Cheick Kongo vs. Shawn Jordan Set With Nogueira Injured
It pisses me off as much as it does you, but unfortunately the dreaded UFC injury curse has struck once again, this time taking down legendary Brazilian heavyweight, Minotauro Noguiera. The former UFC and PRIDE champion has apparently not 100% recovered from the shoulder surgey he suffered at UFC 141, and has been forced out of UFC 149, where he was set to face Cheick Kongo. Stepping in to face Kongo will be Shawn Jordan.27 year old Shawn "The Savage" Jordan (13-3) is a member of team Greg Jackson, and scored a victory in his one and only UFC fight to date, a second round TKO of England's Oli Thompson at UFC on FX 1. Jordan had previously fought for both Strikeforce and Bellator, and holds a notable win over Lavar Johnson.
37 year old Cheick "Darkness" Kongo (17-7-2) is a true UFC veteran, having competed 16 times inside the Octagon. The former kickboxer recently saw the best streak of his UFC career ended by the pinpoint striking of Mark Hunt at UFC 144. The big Frenchman holds notable wins over Pat Barry and Mirko CroCop.
UFC 144 goes down Saturday, July 21st in Canada.
