Todd Duffee Returns To UFC, Faces Phil De Fries At UFC 155

Cast your mind back to UFC 102, it was August 29th, 2009. A giant tank of a man, only in his early 20's, struts down to the cage, then seven seconds and one knockout later, he is the guy everybody is talking about. I'm talking about the UFC debut of Todd Duffee.

The now 26 year old Duffee was heralded by many as the best heavyweight prospect to come down the pike in years, and had fans eagerly awaiting his next move. Unfortunately, that next move was a knockout loss to Mike Russow (although Duffee controlled the whole bout), and his release from the promotion. A bad attitude was the rumour for the release, although nothing was ever made official.

Well for those of you still interested, Todd Duffee is now back in the UFC, and he will fill in for Matt Mitrione (who was plucked to face Roy Nelson at the TUF 16 Finale) at UFC 155 when he faces Phil De Fries.

26 year old Todd Duffee (7-2) still has many years left in the sport, and will look to get back to regular action after a spell of just one fight in the last two years. Since leaving the UFC, Duffee has fought just twice. After being over-matched and knocked out by Alistair Overeem at DREAM Dynamite 2010, the talented prospect managed to hit back with a quick knockout of tough veteran Neil Grove at SFL 2.

26 year old Phil De Fries (9-1) entered the UFC undefeated and ranked as the top heavyweight prospect in England. The Sunderland born big man made his UFC debut in a grappling dominated decision win against Rob Broughton at UFC 138. De Fries was knocked out by Stipe Miocic in his second UFC bout at UFC on FX, but bounced back well by defeating fellow Englishman Oli Thompson with a second round submission at UFC on FOX 4.

UFC 155, which goes down Saturday, December 29th, 2012, will feature a UFC Heavyweight title rematch between Junior dos Santos and Cain Velasquez.
